day 6: love God love others {printables}

I love placing reminders of God's truths around our home.

It's because I easily forget when the going gets tough. And I need the reminder to sow the Word into our children daily.

on the bulletin board in the kitchen

It seemed only fitting to create reminders of the greatest commandments...a reminder of what it all boils down to. A reminder to put it into practice.

If you would like this reminder too, here are three 5 x 7 prints, saved as PDFs on my Scribd page. This first one is my favorite. See if you can find the 13 other words hidden within the grey letters.

The challenge: Pray for an undivided heart.

A divided heart is what keeps us from loving God fully. Makes sense right? Yet there are many things in this world that can seduce us into giving pieces of our hearts away. But according to this Scripture, there is only one way living with a whole heart is going to happen.Which brings me to the place of prayer because I can trust it's one God will answer.

The challenge: Share a meal - and your heart - with someone you love.

There is something holy in sharing a meal with loved ones. Jesus shared a meal with those closest to Him on the night before He bore His cross. And there are many prescribed feasts for His covenant people in the First Testament. Perhaps there isn't so much a challenge in eating together, but in sharing your heart over a meal, now that is something that might not be as easy as the proverbial apple pie.

Scipture pictures

It's been on my heart lately to have our home filled with Scripture and meaning. Monet and his artistic compadres (yes, I'm mixing my countries) are wonderful  but his works just don't means as much to me as these do:

They are abstract creations which are displayed in our dining room.

And it's hard to beat hand-drawn masterpieces done by your very own talented sister (you can commission her to do one of your family).

Even the best artistic photos can't compete with photographs taken by yourself or a family member of people and place you know and love.

So I took some time to repurpose some picture frames and fill them with meaning. Mixing in Scripture was a priority and I came up with these cards to mix into the arrangements (I used the NIV version of the Bible (except I used "returning" instead of "repentance" for the Isaiah Scripture) and I got the images here.):

And here's how they look on our walls:

How have you mixed in meaning within your home? What is your favorite piece?

Making it Count: I want these posts to be filled with the worthy, the important, the significant. One of the ways I'll do this is by posting about a social justice issue. Up this week: tomatoes. Or rather, the people who pick them. Click here to find a super simple, super quick way you can help end modern day slavery in Florida's tomato fields.

happy day project: day 1

happy day Since I only learned about this project last week, I'm a little late to the game, but have decided to do what I can, when I can.

Day One's challenge was to bring a treat to a neighbor. We went a little further afield than our street, but I think "neighbor" still fits.

I settled on making pumpkin bread (and here's the recipe I used), but with a twist. Instead of packaging up the loaf, I placed it in a small mason jar.*

Complete with spoon.

And roasted pumpkin seeds. Yum!

Then I packaged it up in a cloth gift bag - a sewing project which doubled as a homeschool lesson for Brie.

If you want to join in the fun of this project, here's the link to The Happy Day Project.

*I have seen this idea done on other blogs with cake batter baked right in the jar. I toyed with the idea of trying to bake the bread in the jar, but didn't want to chance it not working out. So I settled for cutting the bread into circles.
